Since the personal chef business is a relatively new concept for many people, I would like to explain how the process works.
A Day In the Life of a Personal Chef
Unlike Private Chefs, who are generally employed by just one person or family, Personal Chefs generally work for multiple clients. Personal Chefs first meet with new clients for an assessment interview. At that time a questionnaire is completed that helps the chef understand the food preferences, allergies or other dietary restrictions that must be taken into consideration. The chef then plans a menu customized to the client’s preferences. When the menu has been approved by the client, the chef shops for ingredients and prepares the meals. Usually, meals are prepared by the chef in the client’s kitchen on the day they will be eaten. The food is then frozen or refrigerated and the kitchen cleaned. When the clients are ready to eat, the meal is simply reheated to the chef's specifications and enjoyed.
How it works:
1. Initial private consultation- At this time we’ll have the opportunity to learn about each other when I come to your home. I will ask about your food preferences, any allergies or dietary requirements, your family's favorites and dislikes. This initial assessment will provide me with important information to make special and healthy meal plans for your family. We will outline the amount of freezer/refrigerator space needed and discuss your preferred method of heating to determine the storage containers to be utilized
2. Menu planning - I will create customized menus from an in-depth food questionnaire conducted at your in-home interview. I will also use any research necessary to prepare your customized menus. You may also refer me to special recipes, family favorites, or something new you read in a cookbook or saw on a website. I will try to accommodate these wishes, as well. Then I will email, mail, or fax, your menus to you for your approval. The method of communication will be determined at the in-home interview. Upon receiving your selections, a cook date will be set. Next I will form a grocery list.
3. Cooking Date – The morning of the cook date I will do all the grocery shopping that is needed. Then I will come to your home to prepare your entrees and appropriate side dishes. When done, I will package the food in containers for your freezer or refrigerator, and leave heating or other instructions. You will be left with a spotless kitchen. The only evidence of my visit will be the aroma of delicious homemade meals.
